General System description
System name: GB Forestry Decision Support System
Acronym: None
Brief overview
British government Decision Support System, presented as a web application in its current version (Forest Research Decision Support Portal; note that registration is required). It includes eight different tools according to the objectives that are sought:
- Conifer Timber Quality
- ESC (Ecological Site Classification)
- EMIS (Establishment Management Information System)
- ForestGALES (wind damage risk evaluation DSS)
- Forest Maps
- Herbicide Advisor
- HMSS (Hylobius Management Support System)
- Stormrisk

Contents
Scope of the system
This DSS comprises the eight different tools before mentioned, and it has the ability to answer to a very wide range of management problems. All of the tools are specific for their use in the Great Britain.
System origin
Each tool has been developed more or less independently from the others, by different teams. All of them are hosted on the internet, and all of them are free to use, only needing to be registered, except the Hylobius Management Support System, who requires the payment of some subscription charges.
Support for specific issues
Ecological site classification, afforestation scheduling, pest risks, wind hazard, herbicide and pesticide use or timber quality characterization.
