Problem(s) to be addressed

Provide a short description of the issues / problems that you would like to work on (could be picked from the Wiki issue list, could emerge from the online discussion, or your research interest)

  • P1: Low awareness of the KM tools to be used as embedded tools and components of the architecture of a DSS
  • P2: Low awareness of methods and techniques (from the fields of KM and participation) to be used in supporting DSS software development
  • P3: Low awareness of methods and techniques (from the fields of KM and participation) to be used with DSS in practical planning processes

Objectives / aims to be addressed by the group

Give a short description of the aim of the activities proposed below, so that the success of the measures can be evaluated according to these objectives

  • O1: to increase the number of knowledge management tools and techniques described in the Wiki (relevant for P1, P2, P3)
  • O2: to increase the number of (participatory/collaborative) methods described in the Wiki (relevant for P1, P2, P3)
  • O3: to increase the number of lessons learned described in the Wiki based on participatory/collaborative methods and techniques used in supporting the process of development of a DSS (relevant for P2)
  • O4: to increase the number of lessons learned described in the Wiki based on knowledge management tools and techniques used in supporting the process of development of a DSS (relevant for P2)
  • O5: to increase the number of lessons learned described in the Wiki based on participatory/collaborative methods and techniques used in supporting the application of a DSS in forest management (relevant for P3)
  • O6: to increase the number of lessons learned described in the Wiki based on knowledge management tools and techniques used in supporting the application of a DSS in forest management (relevant for P3)
  • O7: to increase the number of actively engaged members in the CoP that have an interest to share their experiences on participatory/collaborative methods as well as knowledge management tools and techniques
  • O8: to promote the “wiki” and its content to people outside our community (relevant for P1, P2, P3)

Measures to be taken What? How? With Whom? Duration?

List the measures that you are going to work on during the scheduled next year, describe what you are proposing to do, how you want to do that, whom you would like to involve and what time is needed to finish the task

  • M1: Improve the current description of knowledge management tools in the Wiki (http://fp0804.emu.ee/wiki/index.php/Knowledge_Management_tools) by adding examples to existing applications, provide more references and link the description to the properties (e.g. one example could be the database http://fp0804.emu.ee/wiki/index.php/Database ). The interested members should feel responsible each for a tool, a list will be drafted to organize the process, the description should be ready by April / May 2014 (-> relevant for O1).
  • M2: Enhance the current description of the methods and techniques to be applied in the supporting participatory processes in the Wiki and link them to the phases described ([[1]]). The methods description worked out in the Tracopi project can serve as a basis for the description in the wiki (CoPack) (-> relevant for O2).
  • M3: Add lessons learned in the Wiki based on participatory/collaborative methods as well as knowledge management tools and techniques used in supporting the process of development of a DSS. Here a review of the existing material (wiki, reviews, ….) can be done in order to work out lessons learned based on the template provided. (for more details the template can serve as a reference [[2]]) (-> relevant for O3, O4).
  • M4: Add lessons learned in the Wiki based on participatory/collaborative methods as well as knowledge management tools and techniques used in supporting the application of a DSS in forest management. Here a review of the existing material (wiki, reviews, ….) can be done in order to work out lessons learned based on the template provided. (for more details the template can serve as a reference [[3]] ) (-> relevant for O3, O4).
  • M5: Start a discussion forum on the use of different knowledge management tools in the CoP and moderate the discussion. The discussion should focus on sharing experiences and lessons learned, and recognizing knowledge gaps and possible partners for new studies. (-> relevant for O6, O7).
  • M6: Start a discussion forum on the use of different participatory processes tools in the CoP and moderate the discussion. The discussion should focus on sharing experiences and lessons learned, and recognizing knowledge gaps and possible partners for new studies. (-> relevant for O6, O7).

Benefit / Added Value to be achieved

  • B1: More members of the CoP (and outside) know about the applicability of the different knowledge management tools regarding different contexts. In the future, the uptake of these techniques will be improved (-> relevant to P1, P2, P3).
  • B2: More members of the CoP (and outside) know about the applicability of the different participatory/collaborative methods and techniques regarding different contexts. In the future, the uptake of these techniques will be improved (-> relevant to P1, P2, P3).

Next step to be taken

Give an example of the next step to be taken, in order to make the measures more operational (e.g. skype meeting to be scheduled by …, e-mail announcement made by ….

  • first step regarding M1: an EXCEL list with the tools that we want to put a focus on will be drafted to organize the process, members will be motivated to join the task (-> Harald).
  • first step regarding M2: an EXCEL list with the methods and techniques that we want to put a focus on will be drafted to organize the process, members will be motivated to join the task. (-> Eva-Maria/Luc?).
  • first step regarding M3: identify interest among the workgroup members (->who ?)
  • first step regarding M4: identify interest among the workgroup members (->who ?)
  • first step regarding M5: set up the discussion forum on the [3]website (-> Harald)
  • first step regarding M6: set up the discussion forum on the website (-> Harald)
